Cop slain in Batangas attack

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines — A police officer was killed in an attack by motorcycle-riding assailants in San Juan, Batangas on Sunday.

Executive M/Sgt. Romel Panopio of the Batangas police was in his car on his way to work when the assailants waylaid him in Barangay Calicanto at around 3:40 p.m.

Panopio was declared dead on arrival at the San Juan District Hospital due to multiple gunshot wounds, according to Col. Glicerio Consilao, Batangas police director.

Probers have yet to determine the motive for the killing.
