Special team to probe ex-Quezon vice mayor’s slay
LAGUNA, Philippines — A special investigation team has been formed to solve the murder of a former vice mayor of Dolores, Quezon.
Danilo Amat, 50, was in a car on his way home when he was ambushed along Seven street in Barangay San Francisco, San Pablo City, Laguna on Friday night.
Laguna police director Col. Cecilio Ison Jr. said the special team is composed of six officers from the intelligence unit and two investigators from other support units.
The team is headed by San Pablo City police chief Lt. Col. Joewei Lucas.
“We are now gathering pieces of evidence including the statements of several eyewitnesses who described the two assailants. We will also look at footage taken by closed-circuit television cameras installed in the area,” Ison said.
The special investigation team said the murder could be due to a personal grudge or job-related.
Lucas said the team has two persons of interest in the killing of Amat.
Witnesses told probers that prior to the incident, two men were seen in a nearby establishment, apparently waiting for the victim.
Relatives said Amat ran but lost in the last mayoral race in Dolores.
The victim had reportedly received death threats.
