Emmanuel Tupas - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — A cardiologist was shot dead in front of his clinic by a lone assailant who posed as a delivery rider in Quezon City on Friday.

Valentin Yabes, 56, was in front of his clinic on Scout Castro street in Barangay Laging Handa when the gunman arrived at around 8 p.m., according to probers.

The assailant, who was on a mountain bike with a box bearing a delivery service’s logo, shot the physician once with a handgun of unknown caliber.

Yabes’ assistant, who was preparing to close the clinic, went outside and saw the doctor lying face down on the ground.

Operatives from the Quezon City Police District Station 10 arrived at the scene minutes later but the assailant had escaped.

A police manhunt is underway for the gunman. Probers have yet to determine the motive for the shooting.
