Gang leader with links to Dawlah Islamiya surrenders

MANILA, Philippines — A leader of a criminal gang linked to the Dawlah Islamiya terrorist group surrendered to the police in Maguing, Lanao del Sur on Thursday.

Ombay Hadjimalik, 55, turned over an M16 rifle, Col. Jibin Bongcayao, Lanao del Sur police director, said.

Hadjimalik yielded through the intercession of local police units.

He reportedly led a group of robbers and extortionists who shared their earnings with the Dawlah Islamiya, tagged in recent bombings in central Mindanao.

Hadjimalik said he would help the police locate his followers.
