MANILA, Philippines — Three 40-foot shipping containers, which contained 3,160 master cases of smuggled cigarettes with an estimated value of P 131.14 million, were seized at the Subic Bay Freeport on Friday.

Bureau of Customs (BOC)-Subic district collector Maritess Martin ordered pre-lodgment control against the shipment, which was consigned to Russhi Knish Consumer and Proline Logistics.

“The brands of the cigarettes are not included in the Bureau of Internal Revenue’s list of registered importers of cigarette brands,” Martin said.

In Misamis Oriental, smuggled vegetables with an estimated value of P15 million were confiscated in Tagoloan on Thursday.

The BOC said the vegetables were in five shipping containers, which arrived at the Mindanao International Container Terminal Services Inc. on July 2.

The shipment, which was declared as “autolysed yeast in powder form,” was found to contain red and white onions and carrots. – Gerry Lee Gorit, Robertzon Ramirez
