120 firearms seized in eastern Metro
MANILA, Philippines — At least 120 guns have been confiscated in eastern Metro Manila since January 2021 under the Philippine National Police’s crackdown on loose firearms.
In a report yesterday, the Eastern Police District (EPD) said most of the firearms were seized in Pasig with 72, followed by Marikina with 22, Mandaluyong with 18 and San Juan with eight.
EPD director Brig. Gen. Orlando Yebra Jr. said the firearms were confiscated during checkpoints, anti-narcotics operations and implementation of search warrants.
“The operations were conducted to prevent the use of unlicensed firearms in crime,” Yebra said.
He said 1,044 unregistered firearms in Mandaluyong, Marikina, Pasig and San Juan were surrendered by the owners to police.
