MANILA, Philippines — Two barangay captains in San Miguel, Bulacan and Siocon, Zamboanga del Norte were killed in gun attacks on Thursday.
Marvin Avendaño, barangay chairman of San Jose in San Miguel, was in a Nissan Navara on his way home when he was shot in Barangay Buliran, according to reports reaching acting Bulacan police director Col. Charlie Cabradilla.
In Zamboanga del Norte, Bert Inding of Barangay Balagonan in Siocon and his wife were on a motorcycle when unidentified men on another motorbike opened fire.
Meanwhile, in Maguindanao, Usop Sanggakala Aron, 53, chairman of Barangay Ruminimbang in Barira town, was arrested on charges of gunrunning.
Police said Aron yielded five M16 rifles, an M14 rifle, an M16 rifle with a grenade launcher, a caliber .380 pistol, assorted bullets and ammunition for a grenade launcher. – Emmanuel Tupas, Roel Pareñ
