3 dead in Pampanga fluvial parade

SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga, Philippines — Three persons died and four others were injured in an accident during the “Apung Iro” fluvial procession in Apalit, Pampanga on Tuesday.

Reports reaching Col. Alvin Ruby Consolacion, acting Pampanga police director, identified two of the fatalities as Nyote Ponsenes, a resident of Manila, and Aaron John Lopez, 5, of Macabebe, Pampanga.

Ponsenes and another unidentified fatality were electrocuted when a protruding metal in the boat hit a high-tension wire. The boat exploded.

Lopez drowned when the boat he and his family members were riding capsized.

Maria Christina Torres, 58; Elizabeth Javier, 41, and a boy and a girl, both aged 11, were injured and taken to the Premier Hospital and ASCCOM Hospital for treatment.
