Bulacan dengue cases on the rise

Ramon Efren Lazaro - The Philippine Star

MALOLOS, Philippines —– Cases of dengue fever have more than doubled in Bulacan during the first six months of the year, records from the Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance Unit of the Provincial Health Office here showed.

In the monitoring done from January to June 11 this year, the office recorded 2,737 dengue cases, which is 54 percent higher compared to the same period last year. It also showed that the province had 687 cases in only two weeks last month.

Bulacan Gov. Daniel Fernando ordered regular fogging, spraying and monitoring in the affected areas to reduce the number of cases.

He also directed barangay officials, health workers and volunteers to intensify the surveillance and implementation of the enhanced 4S strategies in each of the towns’ barangays.

The municipalities with the highest number of cases are San Miguel with 687; San Ildefonso, 215; Santa Maria, 172; Plaridel, 83, and Angat, 73.
