MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang has declared June 24 a special non- working day in Manila to allow its residents to celebrate the 451st founding anniversary of the capital city.
The declaration is contained in Proclamation No. 1400 signed by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea by the authority of President Duterte on June 22.
“It is but fitting and proper that the people of Manila be given full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion, subject to the COVID-19 protocols of the national government,” the proclamation read.
The capital city was founded on June 24, 1571 by Miguel Lopez de Legazpi, the Spanish explorer who became the first governor of the Philippines.
