P775.8 million drugs seized in Metro Manila since March
MANILA, Philippines — Police in Metro Manila seized P775.8 million worth of illegal drugs in the past three months.
Maj. Gen. Felipe Natividad, National Capital Region Police Office director, said yesterday the drugs were confiscated in 3,226 law enforcement operations from March 1 to June 8.
Natividad said the drugs consist of 113,520.38 grams of methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu valued at P771.9 million; 31,455.10 grams of marijuana, P3.7 million; 28 grams of cocaine worth P148,400 and eight ecstasy tablets with a street value of P13,600.
The operations led to the arrest of 5,908 drug suspects who are being held on charges of violating Republic Act 9165 of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.
Last Tuesday, anti-narcotics officers seized around nine kilos of shabu worth P61.2 million in Parañaque City.
The drug haul is allegedly connected to the P340 million worth of shabu intercepted by police in Quezon City on March 23.
Natividad said the campaign against illegal drugs remains one of their top priorities.
“We have established a lot of gains in our first 100 days and the public can expect a more invigorated and systematized launching of operations geared to curb illegal drug activities in Metro Manila,” he said in a statement.
