Malabon barangay officials receive death threats
MANILA, Philippines — Officials of Barangay Longos in Malabon City reportedly received death threats on Tuesday.
Barangay captain and actress Angelika de la Cruz posted on Facebook a photo of four bullets wrapped in a piece of paper.
She said unidentified people were seen roaming near her house.
“Marumi po talaga ang pulitika sa ating bansa. Nakatanggap ang aming barangay ng sulat at bala at sinasabing may apat pa daw na susunod,” De la Cruz said, indicating that four more persons would be killed.
Her staff said De la Cruz is now in Thailand.
Barangay Longos executive officer Francis Cruz took a leave from work after he received the bullets on Tuesday.
Lt. Mark Xyrus Santos, commander of the Malabon police Longos substation, said they have yet to determine who sent the bullets.
On May 28, Barangay Tonsuya chairman Filemon Villanueva was shot dead by motorcycle-riding suspects in front of his house.
In January 2021, Barangay Hulong Duhat chairman Anthony Velasquez, who was reportedly included in the drug watchlist, was killed by unidentified assailants.
