BI reshuffles 398 employees at NAIA

Rudy Santos - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Immigration has reshuffled 398 officials and personnel assigned at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) to curb corruption in the BI.

Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente approved the revamp based on the recommendation of BI port operations division head Carlos Capulong.

Capulong said immigration officers rendering inspection duties at the NAIA terminals were affected by the reshuffle.

He said it was the second rotation of BI officers at the NAIA this year, with the first one implemented last March.

The reorganization aims to prevent familiarization among BI personnel manning the NAIA’s immigration counters, according to Morente.

He said 195 newly hired inspectors, whose appointments were signed by Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra, would undergo training on immigration laws, rules and procedures at the BI academy in Clark, Pampanga.

Morente welcomed the appointment of the BI inspectors, saying they will augment the number of immigration personnel at the NAIA and other international airports nationwide.
