Emmanuel Tupas - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — A 21-year-old man died when he fell from a mango tree after being electrocuted and was impaled on a metal gate in Quezon City on Friday.

The freak accident that led to the death of Ernie Lumahan occurred in Barangay Culiat at around 12:45 p.m.

Probers said Lumahan was picking mangoes from a tree along Morning Star Drive when an iron bar he was using touched an electrical wire.

He was electrocuted and fell on the metal gate. His mother-in-law sought assistance from barangay officials.

Rescuers removed Lumahan from the metal gate and rushed him to the Quezon City General Hospital for treatment.

Despite efforts to save him, physicians declared Lumahan dead at around 2:45 p.m.

The victim’s brother wrote a handwritten waiver stating their family is no longer interested in any further investigation.
