Vice mayor’s kin shot dead in Sibugay

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — A brother of an incumbent vice mayor was killed in an attack by an alleged supporter of his political rival in Payao, Zamboanga Sibugay on Sunday.

Celso Indino Sr., 47, was in a campaign activity in Barangay Guiwan when he was shot at around 3 p.m.

Indino was a brother of Payao Vice Mayor Joel Indino, who is seeking reelection on May 9. The victim was initially taken to a local hospital for treatment and was transferred to the Zamboanga City Medical Center where he died at past 1 a.m. yesterday.

Col. Albert Larubis, provincial police director, said a witness told police that the assailant was a supporter of Indino’s political rival.

Probers have yet to identify the assailant.
