Marc Jayson Cayabyab - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The Manila Police District deployed 1,500 personnel to secure Labor Day rallies yesterday, MPD director Brig. Gen. Leo Francisco said.

Police were deployed at the US embassy, Liwasang Bonifacio and Mendiola Peace Arch.

Labor groups led by presidential bet Leody de Guzman and his running mate Walden Bello marched on the streets of Manila, but were barred from converging at Mendiola Bridge.

De Guzman concluded the groups’ march near the Far Eastern University.

Police said the labor groups were advised to hold rallies in other freedom parks.
