Cop held for assaulting barangay captain
MANILA, Philippines — A police officer was apprehended on Sunday for allegedly beating up a barangay chairman in Cubao, Quezon City.
Cpl. Marvil Pagod, 29, assigned at the Eastwood police station 12, was arrested during a brawl at the Chill Top restobar in Barangay San Roque at around 2:10 a.m.
Probers said Pagod, along with his companions John Mark Lumadao, 26; JR Lumadao, 29, and Raffy Gumpad, 25, were in the elevator of the restobar together with the group pf Barangay San Roque chairman Telesoforo Mortega.
For unknown reasons, the two groups figured in a verbal altercation.
A police official who spoke on condition of anonymity said Mortega was injured after Pagod allegedly attacked him.
Pagod, Mortega and their companions were taken into police custody.
It is unclear if Mortega would press charges against the policeman.
In February 2021, Pagod and two other police officers were arrested for allegedly extorting money from Chinese workers of a Philippine offshore gaming operation firm in Pasig.
