Holiday in Pangasinan on April 5

Eva Visperas - The Philippine Star

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan, Philippines — April 5, which falls on a Tuesday, is a special non-working holiday in Pangasinan, including Dagupan City.

Malacañang declared the holiday under Proclamation 1334 to celebrate the 442nd anniversary of the province.

Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, by authority of President Duterte, issued the proclamation on March 29, saying “it is fitting and proper” for residents of the province to be given full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion with appropriate ceremonies subject to the public health measures of the national government.

Pangasinan Day was initially celebrated every Nov. 30, but the Pangasinan research and study committee said the province gained its status as a separate political unit on April 5, 1580.

In 2010, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan passed an ordinance declaring April 5, 1580 as the official foundation day of Pangasinan.
