Robbery suspect slain in shootout

MANILA, Philippines — A suspected robber was killed in an alleged shootout with policemen in Quezon City on Friday.

The incident occurred at the corner of Dodge and Fairlane streets in Barangay Greater Fairview at around 1:50 p.m., according to probers.

The suspect, who was identified through his conductor’s license as Francis Morales, 21, and his two cohorts boarded a Mayamy Transport bus and posed as passengers.

The bus was traversing Commonwealth Avenue when the robbers declared a heist and took the driver’s earnings.

The suspects alighted from the bus after the incident. The victim sought assistance from operatives of the Fairview police station.

Police officers pursued Corpuz, who was walking along a street, after the victim identified him.

The suspect allegedly pulled out a handgun and shot at the lawmen, who retaliated, killing Corpuz.

Probers recovered a handgun of unknown caliber and a bag containing four cell phones and P1,000 in cash.

Police are conducting a manhunt for the other robbers.
