13,000 Quezon City employees get health insurance

Neil Jayson Servallos - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Over 13,000 contractual employees of the Quezon City hall have been included in the health insurance program, Mayor Joy Belmonte announced yesterday.

Belmonte said those included in the health insurance plan are full time contract of service, job order and consultant employees of the executive and legislative branches at city hall.

The employees have rendered at least six months of continuous service, she said.

“The city government recognizes that the health and safety of our workers is of paramount importance. It is the right of our employees, regardless of their employment status, to receive protection in the form of health insurance,” Belmonte said.

The mayor said the move aims to ensure that all city hall workers are healthy.

Ronald Tan, officer-in-charge of the city’s Human Resource Management Department, said the health insurance program covers more than 13,000 eligible non-plantilla workers.

Each employee will be entitled to an aggregate health benefit limit of P100,000 per year.

Benefits include annual physical examination, emergency care services, hospitalization or in-patient care and out-patient services, insurance for pre-existing and critical illnesses and life insurance.

Under the agreement with Cocolife Healthcare, the insurance policy is valid from Feb. 1 to Jan. 31, 2023.
