Cop faces rape, child abuse raps
MANILA, Philippines — A police officer is facing criminal charges for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl in Quezon City, authorities said yesterday.
M/Sgt. Galahad Altarejos, 48, a member of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Crime Laboratory, was arrested on charges of rape and child abuse.
Altarejos allegedly threatened the victim and sexually abused her.
In a report, police said the suspect visited the victim and her aunt at their house on Saturday night.
Probers said the victim’s aunt went outside, leaving the girl and the suspect.
The victim reportedly asked the policeman to leave, saying she needed to sleep. The suspect refused and allegedly raped the girl in her room.
QCPD director Brig. Gen. Antonio Yarra and Metro Manila police chief Maj. Gen. Vicente Danao Jr. ordered the relief of Altarejos from his post.
Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte condemned the rape of the victim.
“I condemn this kind of crime. This has no place in the city. Nonetheless, I believe that this is an isolated case and does not define the entire police organization,” Belmonte said in a statement.
