US military donates COVID-19 relief supplies

Pia Lee-Brago - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — US military personnel donated intensive care unit (ICU) beds and COVID-19 vaccine cold storage units to the Palawan provincial government on Tuesday.

The US Indo-Pacific Command’s Civil Military Support Element-Philippines delivered the medical supplies worth $15,175 or P758,750,750 on board the Philippine Coast Guard’s BRP Gabriela Silang.

The US embassy in Manila said the aid is part of a larger donation of ICU beds, essential protective equipment and vaccine cold storage units to the Department of Health for areas at high risk for COVID-19.

“This donation will help the people of Palawan a lot by upgrading our ability to fight the pandemic. It comes at the perfect time due to the surge of new cases,” Jeremias Alili, director of the Palawan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Office, said.

The US has provided more than $39 million (P1.9 billion) to support the Philippines’ COVID-19 response.
