CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines — Unidentified men lobbed a grenade at the ancestral house of Deputy Speaker Rufus Rodriguez in this city yesterday.
The congressman was in Manila when the incident occurred at around 1:15 a.m. No one was injured as the grenade did not explode.
Councilor Jocelyn Rodriguez said her brother, who stays at the house whenever he is in the city, returned to Manila on Saturday after turning over various infrastructure projects.
In a post on Twitter, the Rodriguez family condemned the attack, saying justice will be served against those responsible for the crime.
Rodriguez said the incident could be politically motivated as he floated the idea that he might run for mayor in next year’s elections.
Probers are reviewing footage of closed-circuit television cameras at the scene.
Initial investigation showed that prior to the incident, two unidentified motorcycle-riding men were seen in the area. – Edu Punay
