MANILA, Philippines — The yellow tag policy for houses with residents positive for COVID-19 in the municipality of Pateros is voluntary, the local government said yesterday.
Last Thursday, Mayor Miguel Ponce III ordered the tagging of houses on granular lockdown with yellow ribbons.
Ponce said the policy seeks to ensure the monitoring and isolation of residents infected with the virus as well as to speed up the provision of essential goods to the affected families.
The local government said barangay captains would put yellow ribbons on the houses of COVID-positive individuals.
In a Facebook post over the weekend, Ponce said the yellow tag policy is not mandatory.
“This is voluntary for those who want to help curb the spread of COVID-19,” Ponce said. “This would not be forced, especially if the owner of the house would not want to. There’s nothing to be ashamed of if you are positive for COVID-19.”
Ponce said even members of his family had contracted the viral disease.
