Train set installed at MRT-7

MANILA, Philippines — The first train set for the Metro Rail Transit Line 7 (MRT-7) was installed yesterday.

The three-car train set, still wrapped in plastic and netting, was put up along the tracks of the MRT-7’s Tandang Sora station in Quezon City, Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade said in a statement.

The train set, one of two purchased from Hyundai Rotem in South Korea, was transported from the Manila Harbor Center Port Terminal  on low-bed trucks at past midnight yesterday.

The two train sets arrived in Manila on Tuesday, according to San Miguel Corp., which funded the rail line’s construction.

More trains for the MRT-7 are expected to arrive in the following months, SMC president and chief operating officer Ramon Ang said. A total of 36 train sets or 108 cars are scheduled for delivery.

Tugade said the MRT-7 would reduce travel time from North Avenue in Quezon City to San Jose del Monte in Bulacan from up to three hours to only 35 minutes.

Ang previously declared that the MRT-7 may open to the public by the end of 2022.
