MANILA, Philippines — Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar has ordered an investigation on the killing a former tabloid editor in Quezon City on Tuesday.
Eleazar directed the Quezon City Police District to explore all angles to identify and arrest the gunman responsible for the death of Gwenn Salamida.
Police said the suspect broke into Salamida’s beauty salon in Barangay Apolonio and declared a heist.
Probers said the suspect fired at Salamida and her companion, Oliver Perona, when the former editor resisted the robbery.
Salamida died at the scene. Her companion remains in critical condition.
“We condole with the family of Salamida and we will make sure that justice will be served,” Eleazar said.
He ordered police to remain on alert against criminals while enforcing quarantine protocols.
“We need to ensure that the people are not only safe from COVID-19 but also from lawless elements,” Eleazar said.
