BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — Assorted high-powered firearms and ammunition were recovered from a retired police officer in an entrapment in Hinigaran, Negros Occidental on Tuesday.

Demosthenes Fernandez, 58, a resident of this city, was apprehended after selling a 9mm pistol to Hinigaran police chief Maj. Jake Barila, who posed as a buyer.

Police said M16 and M14 assault rifles, a .40-caliber pistol, a 9 mm, a revolver and assorted ammunition and magazines were recovered from the suspect.

Barila said the suspect, who introduced himself as General Fernandez, had sent text messages and called him to report about the illegal drug trade in Hinigaran.

Barila said he decided on the entrapment after the suspect told him that he was selling an automatic pistol for P60,000.
