MANILA, Philippines — The National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI) yesterday opened its new off-site modular hemodialysis center for COVID-19 patients in Quezon City.

The facility houses 20 dialysis stations that will operate at three sessions per day and can accommodate 60 patients.

The modular hemodialysis center was built by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

The DPWH also constructed 16 air-conditioned dormitory rooms to provide temporary shelter for NKTI frontliners assisting COVID-19 patients.

“We fast-tracked the completion of this modular hemodialysis facility to provide the NKTI with additional rooms that can accommodate dialysis patients infected with COVID-19,” DPWH Secretary Mark Villar said.

Health Secretary Francisco Duque III, Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte and presidential spokesman Harry Roque attended the opening of the off-site hemodialysis center.
