MANILA, Philippines — The city government of Makati yesterday inked an agreement with a hospital builder to redevelop, complete and operate the unfinished Ospital ng Makati 2 (Osmak 2).

Mayor Abby Binay signed a joint venture agreement with Life Nurture Inc. (LNI) for the country’s biggest public-private partnership to construct OsMak2.

Binay said the LNI, a consortium with background in healthcare and hospital management, would redesign, retrofit, construct and operate OsMak 2 along Malugay street in Makati’s central business district.

The hospital will be renamed Makati Life Nurture Health System or MakatiLife once completed.

LNI president Dennis Sta. Ana said OsMak would be upgraded into a 360-bed hospital.

The joint venture company will construct two more floors on the existing structure to add 60 beds from the 300 originally planned, Sta. Ana said.

Binay said over 190 doctor’s clinics would also be built.

The LNI was able to win the project over other bidders following a 60-day Swiss challenge.

The city government will not be spending any money for the project, according to Binay. Makati will contribute the lot and the unfinished structure to LNI.

The mayor lauded the signing of the agreement, saying the construction “comes at a most opportune time as the city is reeling from the impact of COVID-19 on Makati’s healthcare system, health providers and the general public.”

“Amid the challenges we continue to face, we believe that the best COVID response is efficient healthcare for Makatizens. It is our duty to provide them best service, care, attention and medical facilities that our taxpayers’ money can buy,” Binay said.

Once completed, the hospital would be able to provide yellow card holders and other patients expanded medical treatment for cancer, cardiovascular conditions, rehabilitation, preventive medical programs and other services currently unavailable in OsMak 1.

The hospital will use state-of-the-art facilities.
