Inoculated Benguet mayor contracts COVID-19
TUBA, Benguet, Philippines — A municipal mayor in Benguet tested positive for COVID several days after she was inoculated.
Tuba Mayor Clarita Sal-Ongan said she received her first dose of the vaccine on April 5 and underwent RT-PCR or reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction test on April 16.
Sal-ongan said she underwent quarantine for a week before she took the swab test.
She announced the results of her test yesterday, saying she experienced symptoms of the disease.
She is one of the 10 new cases recorded within a day in Tuba.
Following the announcement of Sal-ongan’s test results, the municipal hall building was closed yesterday until today for disinfection.
Sal-ongan advised those who had closed contact with her to isolate and monitor themselves.
Meanwhile, in Isabela, authorities are monitoring again the contacts of a COVID fatality in Ilagan City, whose swab samples tested positive for the United Kingdom or UK variant of COVID on Sunday.
The patient, who died on March 20, was the third UK variant case in Ilagan, which posted 460 active cases.
