ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — A retired police officer was arrested for allegedly killing the partner of his daughter in this city on Saturday.
Closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage led authorities to the wherabouts of former policeman Abdulmiri Jamili, who fled after allegedly shooting Radzkamar Hakim, according to city police Station 11 chief Maj. Chester Natividad.
The victim was declared dead on arrival at the Zamboanga City Medical Center.
Hakim and his wife Myreme were in an auto supply shop along Veterans Avenue when a man in a hooded jacket approached and shot the victim twice.
The assailant fled on a waiting motorcycle.
Responding police officers recovered bullet shells at the crime scene.
A review of the shop’s CCTV footage showed the suspect arriving on a motorcycle with another man in a black helmet.
A follow-up operation conducted by the police in nearby Barangay Sta. Barbara resulted in the arrest of the suspect, who was later identified as the father of Myreme.
Probers are looking at an old grudge as the motive for the killing.
The suspect was reportedly mad at the victim for eloping with his daughter in 2019.
“The dispute has not been settled and the suspect has been allegedly threatening the couple,” Natividad said.
The arresting team recovered a .45 caliber pistol, a hoodie jacket, a black helmet and a motorcyle from the suspect.
Police have yet to identify Jamili‘s accomplice.
