MANILA, Philippines — A total of 5,366 students of the New Era University (NEU) recently participated in online commencement exercises.

Pupils and students from kindergarten and 18 colleges of the university’s main campus along Central Avenue, New Era, Quezon City and other NEU branches nationwide completed their courses for academic year 2019-2020.

The commencement exercises, with the theme “NEU Graduates: Innovating to cope with the new normal,” were conducted through videostreaming from Nov. 24 to Dec. 1.

Rennelyn Roxas of the College of Accountancy graduated magna cum laude.

University president Nilo Rosas said this year’s theme highlighted how the NEU adapted to the new normal amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We should innovate and learn to change in order to adapt to this new normal,” Rosas said. “The pandemic may have brought the world to a standstill, but as part of the NEU family, the graduates should continue on doing selfless acts of charitable deeds for the sake of the people.”

Cinderella Filipina Benitez-Jaro, executive director of the Commission on Higher Education and an alumna of the NEU alumna, was the guest speaker.

Jenilyn Rose Corpuz, Quezon City Schools Division superintendent, also spoke during the graduation ceremonies.

She asked the graduates to “never stop learning, never stop achieving and never stop dreaming.”

Randy Escolango, president of the NEU Alumni Association Inc., Cherrie Melanie Ancheta-Diego, Director IV of the CHED’s Office of Program Standards and Development, also joined the graduation ceremonies.
