MANILA, Philippines — Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, officials of Quiapo Church will not suspend its observance of the Feast of the Black Nazarene on Jan. 9 next year.
Only the traslacion or the procession featuring the Black Nazarene’s image and other crowd-generating activities will be suspended, parochial vicar Fr. Douglas Badong said yesterday.
“No procession, just masses. What is banned is the procession, not the observance of the feast,” he said.
Badong said they will hold several masses on the feastday itself.
Officials of the Quiapo Church met yesterday with Manila Police District (MPD) wherein they discussed various measures to ensure that safety protocols will be observed during the celebration.
The MPD will deploy 1,428 “social distancing marshals” at the Quiapo Church compound and nearby areas.
