Med tech dies in road mishap
MANILA, Philippines — A medical technologist died after his car collided with a vehicle driven by a priest in Kananga, Leyte on Saturday.
Virgilio Hubilla, chief medical technologist at the Eastern Visayas Regional Medical Center (EVMRC) in Tacloban, was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.
Reports said Hubilla’s driver Bienvenido Menoc reportedly tried to overtake, causing the car to collide with a car vehicle driven by Fr. Gregorio Bunales Jr., parish priest of Merida, Leyte.
After the collision, Hubilla’s car slammed into a truck parked on the roadside.
Menoc and Bunales suffered injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment.
Hubilla was the one who convinced health authorities to establish a coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19 testing laboratory at the EVMRC.
Meanwhile, in Davao City, seven overseas Filipino workers were injured when their van rolled over on Saturday.
The victims were on their way home from the airport when they figured in the accident in Barangay Ulas.
The victims – Naira Abad, Mary Joy Capilitan, Rommel Enate, Mae Lampon, Fe Nato, Noraina Puasa and Rose del Torre – were taken to a hospital for treatment.
Probers said it was raining in the area when the accident happened.
