Makati distributes pre-kinder learning kits

MANILA, Philippines — The city government of Makati has distributed learner’s kits to 1,087 children enrolled in the city’s pre-kindergarten education program, Mayor Abigail Binay said yesterday.

“Our commitment to quality education encompasses preschool-aged Makatizens, given that they are at the crucial stage when they start to develop cognitive skills. Together with SDO-Makati, we have put together a learner’s package that contains tools that will stimulate their creativity and imagination, and help them learn new things and activities,” Binay said, referring to the school division office.

Each package contains an alphabet puzzle set, alphabet flash cards, number flash cards, wooden magnetic drawing board, abacus, plastic building block toys, big crayons, clay, glue, popsicle sticks, scissors, construction paper, a plastic ball and jumping rope for children.

A hygiene kit with soap, toothbrush, toothpaste and face towels were also given to the children.

The program would run for five months, and would be under the supervision of 10 teachers.

It would utilize the localized and enhanced pre-kindergarten curriculum within the standards of the early childhood care and development.

“We hope that parents of these 1,087 youngsters enrolled in our pre-K program will devote enough time and attention to engage them in daily learning exercises using the tools we have provided. Making it a part of their daily routine will go a long way in preparing them for formal education,” Binay said.
