MANILA, Philippines — A fragment of the Berlin Wall was unveiled at the Bonifacio Shrine in Manila yesterday.

Manila Mayor Isko Moreno and German Ambassador Anke Reiffenstuel led the ceremony.

“I hope politicians like me will remember that we should act in unison… in fighting this pandemic… that’s destroying our lives, families and economy,” Moreno said.

“Fragment 22” was donated by the German  government in 2014 to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the dismantling of the wall, which divided East and West Germany for three decades during the Cold War.

The fragment was displayed at the National Museum but later transferred to the Bonifacio Shrine.

The German government sent fragments of the wall to different countries as souvenirs of goodwill.

Fragment 22 is the 22nd of the wall’s 40 sections. It is 3.65 meters tall, 1.2 meters wide and weighs 2.8 tons.
