Nueva Ecija mayor survives gun attack

CABANATUAN CITY , Philippines — Police still have no leads on the gun attack on Mayor Arvin Salonga of San Antonio, Nueva Ecija in Jaen town on Tuesday.

A police report said Salonga was driving his Toyota Land Cruiser with his security aide Danilo Camilo when unidentified men on a motorcycle fired at their vehicle in Barangay Apo Esquivel at around 8:45 a.m.

Camilo suffered a gunshot wound in the neck. Salonga was unhurt.

Col. Marvin Joe Saro, provincial police director, said they have yet to get the statement of Camilo.

Probers are checking footage of surveillance cameras at the scene to identify the gunmen.

A police report said the suspects waited for Salonga’s vehicle.

Salonga ruled out politics as the motive for the attack. – Ric Sapnu
