Barangay execs caught having sex on Zoom resign

MANILA, Philippines — A barangay  chairman and a treasurer in Dasmariñas City, Cavite caught having sex during a videoconference call on Zoom last week resigned from their posts on Wednesday.

Jorge Magno, president of the Association of Barangay Captains in Dasmariñas, yesterday confirmed that the two officials, who are both married, resigned.

“Nag-resign na po, sa ikakatahimik ng lahat. Humingi naman po si barangay chairman ng pasensya at pang-unawa,” Magno said in an interview over dzBB.

Magno said the online meeting was with other barangay officials to discuss measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019.

He claimed the participants in the Zoom meeting did not immediately notice that the two officials were having sex.

A video of the meeting reportedly showed the village chief turning off the camera of his cellular phone, but another camera was focused on them.

Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya, Department of the Interior and Local Government spokesman, said the DILG would investigate the incident.

”If true, this is unbecoming of an elected government official. Tinitiyak po naming papaimbestigahan at pananagutin ang barangay captain ng karampatang parusa ng batas,” Malaya said.
