MANILA, Philippines — The Ospital ng Maynila has increased its bed capacity for COVID-19 patients to 82 beds after a 10-day lockdown.

During his Capital Report Friday night, Mayor Isko Moreno said city hall took advantage of the 10-day lockdown from July 31 to Aug. 9 in the hospital to increase its COVID-19 capacity from 27 to 82 beds.

“While our medical frontliners got their breathing room, we took advantage of this to redesign the isolation rooms so we could accept more COVID-19 patients,” Moreno said.

The city government recently put another hospital, Ospital ng Tondo, on a two-week closure after 32 of its personnel tested positive for COVID-19.

The city government also procured a new Abbott serology testing machine for the Ospital ng Tondo, making it the fifth Manila district hospital to have the machine.

It also procured a PCR testing machine for the Sta. Ana Hospital.

As of Friday, the city government has conducted 75,210 swab tests as well as 26,174 serology antibody tests.

There were 697 active COVID-19 cases, 4,972 recoveries and 259 deaths in Manila as of Friday.
