US donates P14.8 million PPEs to PGH

MANILA, Philippines — The United States has donated P14.8 million worth of personal protective equipment (PPEs) to the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) and other medical facilities nationwide.

The US government distributed the PPEs through the Defense Threat Reduction Agency and the US Agency for International Development.

The latest donation brought to nearly P981 million the US government’s assistance to the Philippines’ response against the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

“The delivery of PPEs demonstrates our commitment to the Philippines to stop COVID-19. During this month, which began with a commemoration of the Philippine-American Friendship Day, we are honored to support our Filipino allies with the PPEs they need to assist communities confronting the pandemic,” US Ambassador Sung Kim said.

Kim assured the Philippines that the US government would continue to support Filipino frontline workers.

The PGH and US Department of Defense have a long history of mutual support dating back to World War II.

During the war, Filipino and American medical personnel worked together to treat soldiers and civilians during the Battle of Manila.
