Cop missing as boat sinks off Antique
ILOILO CITY, Philippines — A police officer was reported missing while two of his colleagues and two Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) personnel were rescued when their boat sank in the waters off Caluya town in Antique on Friday.
Col. Roy Parena, Antique police chief, said the victims were in PCG speedboat dispatched to escort a boat carrying relief goods with Caluya Mayor Rigil Kent Lim when it encountered big waves.
S/Sgt. Albert Francisco, Pat. Allan Sabano and Petty Officers 3rd Class Kim Dayalo and Jerald Ligan managed to jump off the boat.
They were rescued by teams deployed by the local disaster management office, water search and rescue unit of Barangay Semirara, local divers and PCG in Boracay.
Search and rescue operations for Cpl. Mark Anthony Alejandro was ongoing yesterday.
Lim said the distribution of relief goods to residents of Sitio Liwagao in Barangay Sibolo pushed through despite the incident.
