Quakes jolt Southern Leyte, Batangas
MANILA, Philippines — Earthquakes shook parts of Batangas and Southern Leyte yesterday.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said a magnitude 4.6 earthquake jolted parts of Southern Leyte at around 5:43 a.m., with its epicenter traced some 10 kilometers northwest of Saint Bernard town.
The quake was felt at Intensity 4, which is classified as moderately strong, in Saint Bernard; Intensity 3 in Anahawan, Hinunangan, Hinundayan, San Juan and Sogod, and Intensity 2 in Liloan.
Phivolcs said the tremor, which had a depth of three kilometers, was not expected to cause damage or generate aftershocks.
Two tremors with magnitudes 4.5 and 4.6 struck Mabini, Batangas at about 1:06 a.m. and 11:19 a.m., respectively.
The epicenter of the first quake was located three kms southwest of Mabini.
The quake was felt at Intensity 2 in Bauan and Intensity 1 in Agoncillo and Lemery.
The second quake, which was centered three kilometers northwest of Mabini, was felt at Intensity 3 in Bauan and Intensity 2 in San Nicolas and Taal.
