MANILA, Philippines — San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora yesterday confirmed that one of his aides who was infected with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has died.

He thanked the employee, who was assigned to the Office of the Mayor, for his service in a social media post.

On March 29, Zamora announced that he was going into self-quarantine after one of his personnel tested positive for COVID-19.

A few days later, he announced that he tested negative for the virus but would continue his 14-day self-quarantine.

As of Friday night, the city government reported that there were a total of 152 COVID-19 cases in San Juan.

Meanwhile, inmates at the New Bilibid Prison were taught to craft their own face masks to prevent the virus from spreading to the NBP.

Bureau of Corrections chief Gerald Bantag said there are currently no COVID-19 cases in the NBP.
