13 Pasig residents nabbed  for illegal cockfight

MANILA, Philippines — Despite an order for citizens to stay home as part of the enhanced community quarantine to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), 13 residents were caught participating in illegal cockfights in Pasig City on Wednesday.

Ten violators were apprehended in Barangay Pinagbuhatan at around 12:30 p.m., according to an initial report from the Eastern Police District.

The police identified them as George Morales, 41, Teodolo Tapia, 57, Sonny Delmo, 60, Rominado Daroy, 58, Eduardo Lamadora, 46, Robert Vera Cruz, 46, Romualdo Sambalilo, 47, Virgilio Romero, 43, Jose Coscolleula, 48, and Joel Resontoc. Seized from their possession were two fighting cocks and P3,100 cash.

In Barangay Rosario, three others were arrested for the same offense at around 11:20 a.m. They are Mark John Sumog-Oy, 19, Rolando Cuaresma, 26, and Benito Mengote, 42. A fighting cock was seized from them.

They were apprehended by policemen who were on patrol to check on people loitering outside in defiance of the government’s order for residents to stay home during the 30-day quarantine period to contain COVID-19.

Ten persons were rounded up for violating the curfew during the Metro Manila quarantine in Caloocan, Navotas and Valenzuela cities yesterday.

Erwin Siervo, Marjun Labadlabad, Roimar Mabini and Jelenita Balderas were arrested for resisting authorities and disobedience after they were accosted for violating the curfew in Barangay Bignay, Valenzuela.

Siervo, Labadlabad and Mabini were arrested for drinking in public, while Balderas was arrested for preventing policemen from arresting Siervo.

In Arkong Bato, Valenzuela, Ramil Baldoza was loitering with his friends shortly before midnight yesterday when barangay watchmen noticed them. After his cohorts fled, Baldoza was arrested after being cornered and cursing at the arresting authorities.

In Navotas, Cedrick Odol, 22, and two 17-year-olds were arrested for loitering outside at 2 a.m. in Barangay San Jose and allegedly disobeying authorities.

Police said 19-year-old Peejay Quenza and Jazmein Concepcion were arrested for being outside during curfew hours in Barangay 3 in Caloocan. They allegedly resisted arrest and cursed at authorities. 

In Pateros, police arrested four drunk men.

Police said Raffy Salonga, 36, was nabbed after he yelled at policemen manning a checkpoint along M. Almeda Street in Barangay Martirez at 6:20 p.m. last Wednesday.

Intoxicated, he questioned the checkpoint set up at the area and shouted invectives at the policemen.

He was about to pull something out of his sling bag, prompting his arrest.

Police would file charges of direct assault and resisting arrest.

Meanwhile, three construction workers were arrested for drinking beer at the corner of Edison and Alexander Streets in Barangay San Isidro, Makati City at 2:55 p.m. last Wednesday.

Police nabbed Nelson Salinas, 42, Ronilo  Bios Jr., 29, and Rey Alimba, 28. – With Marc Jayson Cayabyab, Ghio Ong
