Isabela under state of calamity due to ASF, coronavirus
TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, Philippines — A state of calamity was declared in Isabela yesterday due to African swine fever (ASF) and the threat of the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19).
In a resolution, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan noted that ASF, which resulted in the culling of around 1,000 hogs, has disrupted the economy in the province.
Angelo Nui, Isabela veterinary office head, said 1,137 pigs were culled in 23 barangays in 11 towns due to ASF.
The resolution said COVID-19 is a “clear and present danger to public health” even though there is still no confirmed case in the province.
