Illegal vendors in Quezon City warned
MANILA, Philippines — The Quezon City government has warned illegal vendors against continued operations following the arrest of five persons last week.
The city’s Market Development and Administration Department (MDAD) said street vendors should comply with the regulation so as not to disrupt pedestrians and motorists during weekdays.
MDAD officer-in-charge for operations Procopio Lipana said five vendors were nabbed along Elliptical Road on Feb. 18 after they disregarded the notice of violation along sidewalks.
Instead of following the city ordinance, Lipana said the vendors cursed the law enforcers.
He said vendors are only allowed to operate along sidewalks during weekends.
Lipana asked vendors to avail themselves of the city government’s livelihood programs instead of violating local laws.
“Please remember that Mayor Joy Belmonte’s directive for vendors’ associations is to restore order in the streets, sidewalks and public spaces,” he said.
