‘EDSA decongestion still doable after Skyway collapse’

Christina Mendez - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar has assured  the public that the government’s efforts to decongest EDSA would still happen during President Duterte’s term after a portion of the Skyway Stage 3 project collapsed following a fire in Pandacan, Manila.

During a Cabinet meeting last week, Villar admitted that the incident would delay the project’s completion.

The Skyway Stage 3 extention project is seen to reduce travel time from North Luzon Expressway to Makati by 15 minutes.

D.M. Consunji Inc. (DMCI) said the fire that ripped through a warehouse in Pandacan did not originate from its construction yard.

The company said videos uploaded on social media show that the fire started outside its work area.

The DMCI said it would cooperate in any investigation to determine the cause of the fire.

The fire also damaged the warehouse of San Miguel Corp.

The SMC said it would rebuild and resume construction of the Skyway Stage 3 project as soon as possible.
