2 women dead, 1 hurt in Taguig mishap
TAGUIG, Philippines — A woman and her daughter were killed while another daughter was injured when a motorist hit them in Taguig City on Feb. 4, police said yesterday.
Rosalinda Visaya, 85, and her daughter Lolita Austria, 66, died at the scene while Visaya’s other daughter, Erlinda Tacsay, 65, was reported to be in critical condition at the St. Luke’s Medical Center in Bonifacio Global City.
City police chief Col. Celso Rodriguez reported that the women were hit by a Toyota Fortuner (ASA-7121) driven by Meliton Deloso Penaso, 50, as they were crossing Bayani Road in Barangay Western Bicutan just before 2 p.m. on Feb. 4.
According to the report, closed-circuit television footage showed the women were dragged under the sport utility vehicle, which also rammed three other cars and two motorcycles.
Penaso stepped on the accelerator instead of the brakes, police said. He faces charges of reckless imprudence resulting in two counts of homicide, physical injury and damage to property.
