Makati donates P18 million to calamity-hit areas

MAKATI, Philippines — The city government of Makati would donate over P18 million to towns affected by the onslaught of Typhoon Tisoy and earthquakes that hit parts of Mindanao.

In a statement, Makati said the city council approved the donation through Ordinance 2020-023, wherein the Makati Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC) recommended the release of the money from the city’s quick response fund.

The provinces of Quezon, Albay, Camarines Sur, Masbate, Sorsogon and Northern Samar would receive P1 million each while the provinces of Oriental Mindoro and Catanduanes would be given P500,000. Occidental Mindoro would get P250,000.

Meanwhile, the towns of Daraga and Malinao in Albay and Pilar in Sorsogon would get P1 million each; Tabaco in Albay and Aroroy in Masbate, P750,000; and Bato in Camarines Sur and Allen, Bobon, Lavezares and San Roque in Northern Samar, P500,000.

The towns of San Andres in Quezon, Legazpi City and Sto. Domingo in Albay; Cabusao, Calabanga, Minalabac, Sipocot and Libmanan in Camarines Sur; and Biri, Lope de Vega and Gamay in Northern Samar would receive P250,000 each.

According to the Makati City government, calamity-hit towns and provinces with 2,000 to 5,000 families displaced would be given P250,000; 5,001 to 8,000 families, P500,000; 8,001 to 11,000 families, P750,000; and P1 million for towns or provinces with more than 11,000 families affected.

The city government would also donate P1.25 million to the towns of Hagonoy and Padada in Davao del Sur, which were both hit by a magnitude-6.9 earthquake in December last year.
