Woman dies, 3 hurt in Quezon City fire

MANILA, Philippines — A 65-year-old woman died and three others were injured when a fire engulfed a residential area in Quezon City on Sunday.

Arson probers identified the fatality as Angelita Unite, whose body was recovered in the toilet of her house along Don Pepe street in Barangay Sto. Domingo.

Authorities said Unite was trapped in the burning house after she returned to retrieve her valuables.

The fire left at least 180 families homeless.

Among those who sustained injuries was a four-year-old boy, according to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).

The BFP said the fire broke out at a house in the barangay and quickly spread to nearby homes.

Arson investigators said they were still investigating the cause of the blaze, which reached the fifth alarm.

The fire destroyed around 90 houses. Damage to property was estimated at P750,000.

The affected residents are temporarily sheltered in a covered court in Barangay Talayan.
